Release Day for The Christmas Top!

A year ago, I was playing with the idea of writing an m/m (male/male love story) novel. I adore reading m/m, but have never actually written anything like that before. So Mia Downing challenged me to write a novella, just to test the waters. The below release is the result of that. I wrote it over Christmas break 2012 for one of my all-time favorite serial lines....Decadent Publishing 1 Night Stand.

For those of you not familiar with the line, Madame Eve runs the service for a 1 Night Stand. It's a matchmaking service and Madame Eve has somewhat mystical matchmaking powers and abilities to match people. An HEA is almost guaranteed although her customers rarely realize that's even a possibility.

For my story, she matched up two men that have a past together but never saw their match coming. I hope you all enjoy meeting Jason Wieland (pediatrician) and Mark Cummins (NFL Offensive Coordinator) as they find that One Night can lead to so much more.....

BTW, this is a novella and can EASILY be read in less than an hour. Perfect for the busy holidays.

Blurb for The Christmas Top

All he wants for Christmas…
It’s time for Mark Cummins to come out of the closet. He’s ready, but he’s never been topped. Asking Madame Eve for the one-night stand of his fantasies, he hopes she can grant his Christmas wish.

He’s a less-than-merry gentleman…
Jason Wieland’s life partner died in a horrific hate crime two years before and he hasn’t taken a lover since. He knows it’s time, and he reaches out to the 1Night Stand dating service to find the right man to light up his holiday. But when masculine, sexy, and extremely straight Mark shows up, he doesn’t know what to do. Is this 1Night Stand a cruel joke or has Madame Eve truly worked Christmas magic?

Excerpt

“Listen, you seem like a nice guy, but I think Madame Eve must have made a mistake here. I don’t think we’re compatible.” He started to stand, but Mark’s hand on his arm halted him.

“Wait. I don’t know what I did wrong, but I don’t think she made a mistake. I’m incredibly attracted to you.”

Jason lowered into his chair with a reluctant sigh. “So, you’re telling me you’re gay.” He winced. He hadn’t meant to attack the guy, but he wouldn’t be made a fool of, either.

“Yes. Why would you think otherwise?” His brows furrowed. “Why else would I be here?”

Running a hand through his hair, Jason tried to get a read off the other guy. Was he just bored and out to try something new? That couldn’t be it, could it? “Is this some sort of mid-life sexual experiment for you? Have you even been with another guy before?”

“I don’t know where you’re getting all this from. I certainly haven’t had this type of issue with other guys. Usually they’re fine with me wanting to hook up with them. What did you think this was? Madame Eve sets up one-night stands. I’m not looking for a commitment.” He narrowed his eyes. “You know what…never mind, I shouldn’t have come. I never should have accepted the invitation. Whenever something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I wish I could say ‘nice to meet you, Sidney,’ but unfortunately now I wish I’d stayed home for the holidays with my family.”

Jason didn’t miss the flash of hurt and disappointment on his face as he stalked away. Damn, that appeared genuine. A knot settled low in his belly. Had he misjudged the situation? He played back over the evening as he took off in a jog after Mark.

An Author's Reference Library....

This household is made up of voracious readers. As such, our library has always been fairly eclectic, but as I look at my writer's reference library...and these are just the books that I'm reading for reference on books I will be writing over the next year...it occurs to me that our library is becoming more and more eclectic.

And this is just the library. You should see my google search variety! O.O The subjects cover police work, self-defense, motorcycle gangs, life in the music world, wicca, and GLBT. Lots of interesting stuff in all that...some I hope to infuse into my writing along the way.

BTW, a quick writing update. Currently I am working on first drafts of two novels:

1. THROUGH THE VEIL....this was slated to be released Nov/Dec. I'm pretty sure that timeframe is going to slip back. This book is the first in a seven book paranormal romantic suspense series so it's very important that I get all the groundwork laid out right for the whole series. I am so freaking excited about this book and series. I've plotted and have titles for all SEVEN books and am itching to write ALL of them NOW! LOL...but I have several other series to work on right now too.

2. SNOWCROFT LOST....this is my NaNoWriMo novel (50,000 words in the month of November) and is my full length m/m romantic suspense. So far, the writing on it is going REALLY well...it's at 20,000 words this morning.

Other books coming soon:

3. RIGHT BY YOUR SIDE...the first book in the Martin Ranch series. Romantic suspense featuring Scott Martin (paramedic) and Skye (country western singer). This book hasn't been started yet, but is slated for May, 2014 release.

4. MUDFLAP UNDERCOVER...book #2 in the Mudflap series...this time our spies are going undercover into the motorcycle club world (several of the research books up there). This book hasn't been started yet, but is slated for August, 2014 release. Like with book #1, all the proceeds will benefit the Lubbock, TX Red Cross.

*************

I do have one more release coming out this year. A short little m/m Christmas novella from Decadent's 1NS series called THE CHRISTMAS TOP. I don't have the exact release date yet, but it should be sometime before Christmas.

To us, first responders are heroes. But for them, risking their lives is a normal, everyday thing.

Mudflap:
Born the baby of the family, Mudflap has always had something to prove to emerge out of the shadows of his older siblings. He spent eight years as a Special Ops elite sniper and is now a firefighter. But at his heart, he’s just a normal West Texas good old boy who loves his beer, women and football, until the Department of Defense calls him up to say they need his skills again.

Shanae:
Shanae is a first responder of a different sort. She’s a trauma nurse who works on a medical evacuation helicopter team. But while she lives a life full of adrenaline every day, it’s just a cover for her real life, where she hides in the shadows and is secret agent, Shadowfox for the Lubbock Foxtrot Team (LiFT). She’s living the kind of life that most people think exists only in movies and books.

Working for two different branches of the government, Mudflap and Shanae are in a race against time and the terrorists who threaten the very heart of West Texas life, football. They’re working toward the same goal, but find themselves in a confrontation against each other and the lies they’ve each had to hide behind. Can love win out in the end or will the cost be each other and their very lives?

First responders are heroes every day, but this story tells the tale of when they become even more and find love along the way. The key is for them to stay alive so that they can complete their mission and just maybe live happily ever after.

On an ordinary day, they save lives. On an extraordinary day, they save the country.

As Promised...The prologue from WHEN LOVE INTRUDES!

Releasing at the end of the month....

Prologue

“Detective, are you okay?”

The soft, but urgent voice caressed Brian Barnes as it echoed through his brain. It called to him, soothing his soul like wisps of cool touches across his fevered skin. He needed to see who it belonged to. He had to open his eyes.

His muscles tensed and fire tore through his side, burning and stealing his breath, as Brian pushed back to consciousness. Automatically he reached his hand toward the pain, but he couldn’t move his arm. His groan rumbled as the agony in his gut seemingly radiated out over his entire body.

“Oh, come on, don’t do that.” The voice again, but this time it wobbled like she was about to cry. “When you try to move, you bleed more. Come on, Brian, listen to my voice. Hold still. I don’t want you to bleed to death, just open your eyes so I know you aren’t going to die and I’m not alone here.”

He had to follow the compulsion of her voice. Disappointing her wasn’t an option, not with that voice pulling at him. Slowly his eyes fluttered open.

A vision of the beautiful Toni swam in front of him. Why was she crying? What happened? A blistering pain shuddered across his torso and reality came flooding back. He’d come over to Pete’s house because he thought something was wrong. His instincts had been right, but the reality of the situation was so much worse than he’d ever imagined. He refocused on Toni and the bruises marring her face and arms.

She was dating Pete and right now she looked so freaking scared. But who could blame her since her boyfriend, his friend, had gone bat-shit insane. He missed all the signs that the cop and the man who’d been his friend had lost all touch with sanity. So now he sat here on the floor with a gunshot to his gut and two women in terrible danger. If Toni was here, somewhere Julie, her friend, and the focus of Pete’s obsession, had to be here too. Somehow, he had to get them both out before Pete hurt them, too.

“Toni…are you okay?” Goddamn, even breathing hurt. Black spots danced before his eyes as another wave of pain crashed over him. He moaned.

“Shh, I’m fine. He didn’t want to hurt me.” She looked down at him from her perch on the bed and her face paled even more. “Oh God, you’re bleeding so much. We’ve got to get you out of here.”

He didn’t even have to look down to know how bad it truly was. He couldn’t feel anything below the radiating pain in his gut anymore. Blood soaked everything. The cold seeping over him was definitely not a good sign, but he sure wasn’t going to freak her out even more by telling her that. She needed to get to safety.

He took a shallow breath and focused to take stock of the room.

Pete shot him and then dragged him to this bedroom and cuffed him to the leg of a heavy armoire. The gunshot to his gut was why everything hurt so fucking bad.

It was hard to tell from where he was at on the floor, but it looked like Toni was handcuffed to the bedframe. As he watched her, she wiggled.

“What,” he gasped, “are you doing?”

Her torso twisted. “I’m trying to get my charm bracelet off.”

Okay, Brian knew his brain wasn’t functioning at full capacity, but why was she worried about her jewelry right now?

His question must have showed on his face because she gave him a wink. “I have a handcuff key on it. Think about what that means for a moment instead of what’s happening here.”

Her mischievous look and the reality of their situation were at complete odds, but the reason why she had a key like that hit him and he couldn’t help but find the humor. He gave a bark of laughter which morphed into a moan when his gut clenched. It took a moment to get his breath back. “You wear a…” he breathed through the black spots and nausea, “handcuff key on your bracelet?”

Her chagrined smile took his breath away and this time it had nothing to do with the gunshot wound in his gut. She was so beautiful, even roughed up and messy like she was now. Her auburn curly hair fell over her eyes. She kept blowing it to move it. The urge to touch it, to run his fingers across those curls, pulled at him. He instantly regretted that this would be the last time he’d see her.

The numbness spread along with the pool of blood below him. He had a feeling that he wouldn’t wake up again when the unconsciousness, creeping at the edge of his brain, overtook him this time.

“Got it!” Toni raised her freed hand in victory and rushed over to his side clutching the key. At the same time a muffled scream echoed throughout the house.

Her frantic eyes met his as she fumbled with his cuffs. “That’s Julie,” she whispered.

He wasn’t going to be any help to her now. He was too far-gone. At this point, he’d just endanger and slow her down. She had to get out of the house.

“Toni, you can’t help me.”

She stilled for a moment, squeezing her eyes shut. When she re-opened them, resolve shone through their turquoise depths. He had to use that to get her to safety.

“Get out. Go get help.”

“I can’t leave you here.”

Another scream sounded out.

“Do you know how to shoot?” He winced as another arc of pain shot through him.

She gave a frantic nod.

“There’s a gun inside my right pant leg. Get it out and help her. Do whatever you have do, Toni, to get both of you out of here safely.”

She fumbled for a moment with his pant leg and rose up on her knees with the gun firmly in her grasp.

“That a girl.”

Their eyes met for a moment before she leaned down, gently brushed the hair off his forehead, and gave him a soft, light kiss on the cheek. “I’ll be right back. Don’t die.” The fierceness in her voice was a powerful thing, but he had a feeling he didn’t have much say about it anymore.

As she crept out of the room, the cold of his body swamped him.

A gunshot rang out over the house and then eerie silence ensued.

Black dots encroached over his vision.

His job was to protect.

He’d failed.

Want a SNEAK PEEK from WHEN LOVE INTRUDES??

Hello, everyone!

I'm super-busy around here. Here's a run-down of all that's going on....

  1. WHEN LOVE INTRUDES is going through edits. It WILL be released this month!

  2. THROUGH THE VEIL is still in process. Ugh. There are moments when I adore that book and moments when I wonder if it will ever be truly ready for publication. LOL. I wrote the bulk of it in July, 2012, and my writing has grown so much since then so it's needing lots of rewriting and I still  have to finish it! I'm still hoping for a November release on it.

  3. I'm also prepping for my NaNoWriMo novel....a spin-off series that's intro-ed in WHEN LOVE INTRUDES. The first book is SNOWCROFT LOST and it will be m/m romantic suspense. I'm hoping to release it in Feb, 2014.

  4. Then, I have like five other books brewing/plotting in the back of my head for the future. My brain can be a chaotic place sometimes....LOL!

So, I mentioned something about a sneak peek didn't I??

Right now my newsletter list has 488 people on it. When it hits 500, I will share the prologue from WHEN LOVE INTRUDES  on here. And I'll give you a hint...the prologue is the scene at the end of OPERATION: ENDURANCE between Toni & Brian that we don't get to see.

Intrigued?

Well, sign up for my newsletter (right column of the home page of my website.) And don't worry....I don't spam you. The only time I send a newsletter out is when I have a new release come up available on Amazon, so it only goes out about every 3 months or so.

Sneak Peek from THROUGH THE VEIL....

Hi, all! It's been a long time, hasn't it? I'm so sorry about that (I've been really busy...four books are brewing in my brain right now all in varying stages of writing.) But because I've been neglecting you all, I thought I'd treat you to a sneak scene from THROUGH THE VEIL.

(BTW, don't get too attached to this cover. I think we may be changing it some.)

Just a bit of back ground for you on this. Marcus is the hero of the book. Lori is the heroine. Malcolm is a doctor and Marcus's brother and Brooklyn is his assistant. They've just put 127 stitches into Marcus's back and he has a slight issue with tolerance to drugs...i.e. he gets higher than a kite. The following (unedited) scene is the result:

She really was beautiful even with that frown on her face. Maybe he needed to cheer her up by finishing what they’d started at the waterfall. But, whoa, wait just a minute. He frowned down at the front of his pants where there was a definite lack of interest going on. What the hell? He’d been half hard ever since Lori fell into his arms at the bridge.

His mortified gaze met Malcolm’s. Malcolm was immediately worried about his distress. “What’s wrong?”

He waved Malcolm over to him and then turned them away from the girls for a guy pow-wow.  “Mal, I don’t have an erection,” he whispered urgently, but it must not have been quiet enough because he heard Brooklyn snicker.

Malcolm frowned at him confused. “Um, okay? I wouldn’t really expect you to have one right now.”

He didn’t understand. This was serious. “No, I always have one when Lori is around.”

This time Brooklyn didn’t even try to quiet her loud laugh and he heard her mumble, “This is so unfair that this falls under patient confidentiality.”

He turned to scowl at her, but was distracted by Lori’s sweet indulgent smile. She was so beautiful. He looked down. Again…nothing. He turned a desperate look to Malcolm to find him grinning like this was funny, too. That shit was not acceptable. “You think this is funny?” he asked incredulously.

“Well, maybe a little, but Marcus, you’re fine. It’s just the medicine. It’s deadened your nerves. All of them. Don’t worry. It will be back.”

He turned back to Lori and gave her thumbs up. “Did you hear that, Baby? I’ll be fine.”

He could see the corners of her mouth quirking up like she was fighting a smile. “I never had any doubt about it.”

He turned back to Malcolm and grinned. “She was impressed by my big sword.”

If all goes as planned, this book will be releasing in November sometime. Here's the Goodreads link for it.

Promo Post: Fantastic Sale on Mia's Erotic Romantic Suspense series!

To celebrate the release of Spy Games: Endgame to Amazon, The Wild Rose Press is graciously offering for sale the first two books in the Spy Games series through all distributors August 9-23! Now is the time to get a jump on this great series, and see how it all wraps up with Endgame!

~*~

Book 1—Spy Games: Trained for Seduction, on sale for $.99 until August 23!

Emma Walters didn't choose to be a spy, but when her crazy father was caught selling bombs to the wrong people, she was given a choice--become a spy or rot in jail. Her exciting new life as agent Kate Wells becomes more so when she discovers her new boss is the agent--undercover and investigating her father at the time--who took her to third base. Emma is already half in love with the dark and dangerous Chase Sanders. Kate wants nothing more than for him to finish what he started, but he's the devil incarnate. And one doesn't make deals or fall in love with the devil.

If someone had told Chase he'd fall in love with a certain virgin when he was on his last mission, he would have shot them dead, sniper style. She was nothing more than collateral damage, damn it. But watching the sexy new spy morph into a bombshell killing machine is too much to bear. So when the powers that be command him to train her in the art of seduction for her first—and possibly last—mission, he's scared witless. Making love to Kate means preparing her for sex with another man.

Somehow, Chase has to find a way to get Kate in—and out—of her mission without dying. And without falling in love.

This book is an erotic romance. It contains graphic language, explicit, smokin' hot sex, menage, lots of juicy conflict, some suspense, a dark and dangerous spy boss and a spunky bombshell heroine.

Exotic beauty Tia Richards—his new partner—is wild, twisted, and has no limits when it comes to adventure, in bed and out. She's perfect for him. Now he just has to get Tia and his heart to agree.

Sexy spy Tia Richards has a problem, and the solution is Jake. The last time they hooked up, he left her bound and begging, unfulfilled, so close to finally getting the fireworks she deserves. But Jake loves his former partner, and Tia refuses to be second best. Will she listen to the ache in her heart that whispers she has what it takes to be first in Jake's life, or will lethal limits separate them forever?

Book 3—Spy Games: Endgame.

Sexy spy Charlotte Smith doesn't go by the code name Dragon Queen because she's sweet and cuddly. She's cold, hard, and mean and has been training for the past five years to take down the men who destroyed her soul and left her burning for revenge. But when she meets her next assignment at a wedding, her body protests there's much more to life than kicking asses and taking names. Actor Aaron James is witty, hot as hell, and he smells divine. But women with suicidal endgames don't indulge in casual sex, and they definitely don't fall in love.

Since meeting Charlotte at his brother's wedding, Aaron's life has been nothing but trouble. He's plagued by memories of the kiss he stole from her, and he senses underneath her aloof nature and frosty glare is a woman with passion and fire. When Charlotte is assigned as his bodyguard after a botched kidnapping attempt, he's psyched. What better way to get in her panties than have her pretend she's his girlfriend? Until Aaron realizes too late he wants more than into her panties...he want's Charlotte's heart.

“All tied up like a gift, you are. Delightful.”

“I’m going to take the hood off now and have a peek at my present. I love Christmas, but I don’t like to wait.”

Her cheeks dented with a dimple as she smiled at him with mischief. She wrinkled her pert nose. God, could a woman’s skin get any creamier than that? Pale and flawless except for the scar under her left ear he noticed when she turned slightly, cocking her head as if to listen for something.

She did the unthinkable and straddled his lap, her face inches from his, looking into his eyes, the heat from her crotch searing his shaft. He should be afraid. Terrified. But something told him this wouldn’t be like his first time. If she just rode him into oblivion, this time he’d enjoy every moment of it.

“So handsome.” She touched his cheek with a gloved hand, her fingers warm through the leather. Her sleeve rode up and a tattoo around her wrist was exposed, a delicate chain of daisies with a yellow butterfly. He knew that, from somewhere, too, but didn’t remember seeing it on her when they danced. She wiggled on his lap, the ridge of his cock angling against the heat of her crotch through those thin black pants of hers.

He groaned through his gag. If she just rode him, even while he was bound and gagged, he’d be more than grateful for the gift. It was a new experience, to be so damned aroused over a woman, under such extremes. Maybe that’s what the problem was—this was way too extreme. He’d fought feelings like this for years. Now they were punching him in the gut as hard as she ground against his cock.

“Happy to see me again, are you? These ropes excite me, too. It’d be more exciting if it were the other way around. I love a good bondage session.”

He groaned again. He didn’t like kinky shit, but he did like Charlotte. Way, way too much.
